The Link Program is a collaboration between The Link Literacy & Numeracy Project and iSabelo Solutions, aimed at empowering children whose first language is not English, particularly in low-income schools in Johannesburg.
Founded in 2010 by educator Margi Bashall, The Link supports children in Grade 2 and Grade 3 who are identified as at risk of not reaching their full potential in literacy and numeracy. The program is designed to help these learners develop essential skills in a structured, supportive environment.
With over 400 committed volunteers, many of whom are members of the local community, The Link provides personalized support to learners who need it most. Volunteers receive training and resources to work with children, no prior teaching experience is required—only fluency in English. The program operates in partnership with 18 schools across Johannesburg, reaching 800 children each week.
We collaborate closely with teachers and educational authorities to ensure that our efforts align with the curriculum and address the specific needs of the learners. The program has been recognized by the Gauteng Educational authorities, and our volunteers play an integral role in enhancing the educational experience for children.
The Link offers more than just academic support. By fostering a sense of safety, belonging, and achievement, it creates a positive and engaging environment for both learners and volunteers.
At iSabelo Solutions, we are proud to be part of this impactful initiative, working together to strengthen the literacy and numeracy skills of children and pave the way for their future success. We aim to expand our reach, but this growth depends on the support of volunteers and funding.

Blue Lion Clubs are an exciting part of iSabelo Solutions’ commitment to holistic education and community development. These clubs provide a wide range of extramural activities designed to nurture creativity, teamwork, and personal growth for children and teens.
Our clubs offer opportunities for learners to engage in sports, arts, culture, and board games, creating a balanced, well-rounded experience outside of the classroom. The goal of the Blue Lion Clubs is not only to promote physical fitness and creativity but also to foster social skills, leadership, and a sense of belonging within the community.
Each club is structured to encourage participation, teamwork, and positive competition in a fun, safe environment. Whether it's sports activities that help develop coordination and teamwork or art and culture sessions that encourage self-expression, the Blue Lion Clubs are designed to spark passion and build confidence among young participants.
Through these clubs, we aim to:
Provide safe spaces where children and teens can explore their interests.
Foster connections between learners from diverse backgrounds.
Encourage lifelong skills such as discipline, communication, and collaboration.
Promote the importance of well-being, both physical and emotional.
At iSabelo Solutions, we believe that activities outside of formal education are crucial for personal development. The Blue Lion Clubs are an important tool for helping children and teens discover their strengths, develop new skills, and engage meaningfully with their peers and community.
Join us in supporting these extracurricular activities and give young people the chance to explore their full potential.
